Our approach - How we work
Our approach to design is guided by the Double Diamond framework to ensure teams build solutions that customers actually want to use.
As humans, we all have biases and a tendency to jump straight into solution mode. It’s only natural.
We like to sit in the problem space to determine how big the problem is in the eyes of your customer, so your products and services have the most positive impact on the customer experience.
Mobilise
We ensure the scope is agreed and understood by all impacted stakeholders and the resources, commitment and timing is aligned. We’ll challenge assumptions to ensure the root cause of the problem is solved.
We do this to ensure the scope is agreed and understood by all impacted stakeholders and the resources, commitment and timing is aligned.
Outputs
- Project briefing / reverse brief
- Project resourcing
- Developing stakeholder maps
- Business model canvas / lean canvas
- Initial stakeholder / alignment workshops
- Problem definition
Discovery
Discovery is important because what people say vs. what people do vs. what people say they do are entirely different things. So, how you ask questions in interviews is very important because you want to get to the why and truly understand your customer’s need.
We gather both quantitative and qualitative data points for our discovery research as the combination provides a strong narrative of the reality of the problem space. Findings from secondary research usually tell us the what and learnings from discovery interviews tells us the why behind the numbers.
Outputs
- Research plan
- Secondary research
- Python queries
- Service Blueprint scenario alignment
- Service Blueprint v0 & v1
- Customer / user interviews
- Initial learning statements
Define
Define is all about understanding and clarifying the problem with the immense amount of data gathered through primary and secondary research during the Discovery phase.
Through the Define phase, you’re converging from going wide and deep in the problem space during Discovery, through synthesis.
By the end of this phase, you are in the most ideal position to make informed decisions, backed by data.
Outputs
- Clustered learning statements
- Insight statements
- Personas
- Empathy maps
- Affinity diagrams
- Insights deck
- Showcasing
Ideate
This is where key stakeholders and a cross-functional group can get together and ideate on the insights generated from the Define phase. The best way to do this is through a range of ideation activities such as Crazy 8's.
Outputs
- Brainstorming workshops
- Solution design / ideas
- Impact vs. effort matrix
- Crazy 8's activity
- Storyboarding
- Lo-fi wireframes
- Mockups / prototypes
Deliver
This is the fun side prototyping. You know the problem. You know the solution. Now, it’s validating that the solution is solving the problem the way you’re expecting it to. There’s always room for tweaks along the way.
Outputs
- Pilot
- Prototyping
- Usability testing
- Lo-fi wireframes
- Hi-fi wireframes
- MVP
